Coming up in January is a lecture by Emeritus Ossi V. Lindqvist. He will introduce us to Methods and History of Science, which has more to do with philosophy than environmental or computer science. The words epistemology and ontology already appeared during the first class, last week.

It was clear after the first few sentences that Ossi is awesome. I’m willing to bet you wouldn’t argue otherwise. Perhaps emeriti are just more relaxed, not under the pressure of two dozen parallel tasks, or perhaps the wisdom that comes with silvery hair puts much into perspective, or maybe it is the confidence conveyed by someone holding a bag filled with experiences.

Ossi doesn’t like slides. He writes keywords and draws arrows on the blackboard, which nowadays is white. “Something magical happens when you actively translate to paper what I write on the board”, Ossi notes. “You learn”.
